Otley councillors Ryk Downes and Sandy Lay have expressed their disappointment over the planning consent granted for two detached houses where 5 Prince Henry Road, Otley currently stands.
The planning application was approved by the council’s plans panel on Thursday 14th January, despite widespread objections from both local ward members and public.
Cllr Ryk Downes (Liberal Democrats, Otley & Yeadon) said: “Not only will the houses be crammed into a space designed for only one, but they will be clearly out of character with the rest of the street.
The only benefit in this case will not be for either the existing or potential residents but for the builder who can make twice the money selling two houses rather than one.”
Cllr Sandy Lay (Liberal Democrats, Otley & Yeadon) added: “It is evident that the concerns I and fellow councillors have raised are mirrored by the public.
“I regret that, despite being rejected in the past, these plans have now been approved. I hope that the plans panel will realise that not listening to the widespread disapproval expressed by the public was a mistake.”
