You may already be aware of the high voltage cable fault on Billams Hill /Farnley Lane over the christmas break
Northern Power Grid were able to temporarily transfer over to a secondary system to avoid any major power outages
Northern Powergrid have advised us that this leaves Otley in a very vulnerable position as if this secondary system fails then it could potentially leave the whole town without power. Therefore – they want to carry out a permanent repair to the damaged high voltage cable a.s.a.p
We met with NPG’s contractor (Murphy’s) yesterday to discuss the job and confirm methods of traffic management while the works are being carried out
Obviously we will not stand in the way of these emergency repairs but given that this particular stretch of road is highly traffic sensitive – especially during the morning and evening peak – so we are keen to ensure that the works were carried out with the minimum possible disruption
We have agreed that works can begin tomorrow (6th Jan) after 09.30
The first phase of the work will be carried out in the footpath opposite the Farnley Lane junction and excavate up the footpath to the entrance of the sailing club.
The footpath will be fully closed to pedestrians with a temporary walkway provided in the carriageway.
This phase will be carried out 09.30 15.30 Wed – Saturday with two way traffic flows maintained
The footpath will be fully opened to pedestrians outside of these working times
On Sunday there will be an excavated road crossing carried out in two halves with 2 way traffic lights in place to manage the traffic.
When we have had temporary lights here in the past there have been lengthy queues in both directions and unfortunately, similar levels of disruption should be expected on this occasion.
This work will be completed and the lights fully removed before the peak on Monday morning
A temporary pelican crossing will be installed to assist pedestrians
