Local Lib Dem councillors, Sandy Lay and Ryk Downes, have offered £400 of their MICE moneys so that Otley Action for Older People can fund their Memory Lane Café sessions all the way through ‘til Christmas.
The memory lane cafés bring local residents with dementia and memory problems together for support and advice, as well as entertainment, helping to combat the social isolation and loneliness that can result when dementia sets in.
“The Memory Lane Cafés have been running since 2011 and have become an important fixture in the lives of many older residents in the area.” said Cllr Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon). “When they reached out to us as their council funding came to an end, we knew we had to do something to help the sessions stay afloat.
“We all need company and advice from time to time,” added Cllr Lay, “and to know that others are facing the same problems as we are. This is why these meetings are so important and we are so pleased to be able to assure their financial future until the end of the year.”
