Following requests from local residents I asked highways to consider a pedestrian crossing on Burras Lane to help residents on the Whiteley Croft Estate access Waitrose, also published walking from Station Road to Westgate School.
Highways have several times assessed the number of pedestrians crossing and have always resisted putting in a crossing, saying the numbers were not quite sufficient to warrant one, and it was not clear where one would go.
I along with my colleagues Cllrs Campbell and Lay called on all the houses in the Whiteley Croft area and there was overwhelming support for a crossing and residents advised where they wanted it.
Based on these figures highways resurveyed and concluded they would like to construct a crossing, but funding was not available. The only solution was as a local councillor for me to allocate MICE money and area committee funding to half fund the project.
I am pleased to announce that highways have now confirmed the date for works to commence on 2nd March 2015.Leave a comment
